COLUMBUS, GA August 2021- The Columbus Airport will celebrate the return of American Airlines to the Columbus Georgia market with nonstop service from Charlotte Douglas International (CLT) to Columbus Airport (CSG) and a second route with nonstop service from Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport (DFW) to Columbus Airport (CSG) with an Inaugural Celebration on Tuesday, August 17th at 1p.

Beginning Tuesday, August 17, 2021, daily service will be offered on the new Columbus–Charlotte and Columbus-Dallas/Fort Worth routes. The airport will celebrate with a water cannon salute, community speakers from the Mayor’s office, Chamber of commerce and Visit Columbus as well as giveaways to passengers of the first flight and inaugural attendees.

“These new, nonstop services connecting our region to east and west coast destinations are a huge asset for business travelers, government officials and our community.” Said Don Cook, Airport Commission Board Chairman. American Airlines is continuing to offer more ways to reconnect with friends and family as it continues to rebuild its network to match demand.

“Columbus has been on our radar for a while and we’re eager to offer additional air travel options to our largest hubs in Charlotte and Dallas-Fort Worth,” said Brian Znotins, American’s Vice President of Network Planning. “With these new flights, local residents can access American’s global network, with just one stop to the world.”

COLUMBUS, GA May 2021- The Columbus Airport was awarded the 2020 Air Carrier Airport Safety Award within the FAA Southern Region which consists of eight states to include Kentucky, Tennessee, North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, Alabama, Mississippi, and Florida with a total of seventy commercial service airports.

The FAA Southern Region Airports Division Safety Awards program allows the division to recognize air carrier airports that have taken actions, instituted programs, or otherwise operated in such a manner deserving of special recognition for improving airport safety. Selection criteria for the Air Carrier Airport Safety Award are based on the development or implementation of a specific program or activity, or other special and unique accomplishments, involving the operation of an air carrier airport that resulted in enhanced safety.

During 2020 the airport implemented several initiatives to improve the safety of the airfield for all users to include consistent phraseology, identifying movement boundaries, established location quadrants to help set clear expectations and formulate a consistent understanding of the airfield and its boundaries. Practical driver training was augmented and additional directional and location signs on the reverse side of the current airfield signs were installed providing greater taxiway/intersection awareness.

COLUMBUS, GA April 2021– The Columbus Airport is pleased to announce the return of American Airlines to the Columbus Georgia market with nonstop service from Charlotte Douglas International (CLT) to Columbus Airport (CSG) and a second route with nonstop service from Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport (DFW) to Columbus Airport (CSG).

COLUMBUS, GA December 2019- New improvements will begin at the Columbus Airport thanks to the $9.7 million dollar grant received from the FAA, $650,000 grant awarded from the State of Georgia and the $3.5 million dollar grant that was approved by the Department of Transportation who awarded five airports in the state of Georgia grants that totaled up to $12.6 million dollars for Georgia airports. “The robust economy is enabling more passengers to travel by air therefore the current administration is investing billions of dollars in Americas airports which will address safer airport operations, fewer airport delays, and greater ease of travel for air travelers, said U.S. Secretary of Transportation Elaine L. Chao.”

This is part of a $485 million federal investment in Americas airports. All three grants will be used to fund terminal building modifications that are expected to start first quarter 2020. The renovation will be the first modernization since the current terminal’s completion in 1991.

The Columbus Airport plays a vital role in supporting the region with 622 jobs with an impact of $70.1 million in economic output for the local and regional economies as reported in the DOT’s last economic development study. Airport Commission selects Holt Consulting Company as the new Aviation Engineering Consultant for the Columbus Airport

COLUMBUS, GA November 2019- In October 2019 the Columbus Airport solicited proposals from qualified aviation consulting firms to provide professional planning, engineering, architectural, and construction administration services in connection with the Airport Capital Improvement Plan. Nine bids were received, and the top three scoring firms were invited to give a presentation to the selection committee. Based on results of the presentations & interviews the contract was awarded to Holt Consulting Company.

Holt Consulting Company is a multi-discipline engineering firm with offices in Georgia and South Carolina that provides planning, design, and management services for transportation infrastructure. HOLT’s relationship-based culture coupled with responsive communication and action makes them the consultant of choice for state and local governments.

Holt Consulting Company currently contracts with several (DBE) Disadvantage Business Enterprises (Aulick Engineering, LLC, Environmental Resource Solutions, Taffy Pippen Consulting, LLC, RE Appraisal Group, Inc and Key Engineering Group.) as well as local Columbus, Georgia businesses to include Moon, Meeks, Mason & Vinson, Inc. who has worked on several projects with the airport, Peach Engineering and Hecht, Burdeshaw Architects, Inc. who designed the original airport terminal.

Columbus Airport conducts Triennial Crash Exercise to test Airport’s Emergency Plan

COLUMBUS, GA April 2018– The Columbus Airport Commission as required by federal regulation will stage a mock crash of a commercial aircraft to test command and control functions and response of the Airport and its mutual aid providers. The exercise is conducted every three years to test the Airport’s Emergency Plan.

Kickoff for the exercise is planned for Friday, April 13th at 9:00 a.m. and will run until completed on the Columbus Airport property. Along with airport staff additional participants include Columbus Police, Fire, EMS, Marshall’s office and Red Cross to name a few.

The Columbus Airport plays a vital role in supporting the region with 622 jobs with an impact of $70.1 million in economic output for the local and regional economies. COLUMBUS, GA March 2018- On April 9, 2018 the Columbus Airport Commission will celebrate its 50th year of service to the Chattahoochee Valley residents. The Commission, created by an Amendment to the Georgia State Constitution on April 9, 1968 is tasked to oversee the operations & development of the airport & its facilities. The Commission is composed of five (5) members, appointed by the Columbus Council.

The Commission and staff are spending the entire month of April celebrating Commissioners past and present as well as the achievements of 50 years’ service with promotions and giveaways for travelers at the Columbus Airport.

Columbus Airport Receives 2017 Georgia Airports Association Project of the Year Award

COLUMBUS, GA October 2017– The Columbus Airport Commission is the proud recipient of the 2017 Georgia Airports Association Project of the Year Award for the rehabilitation and completion of project Runway 13/31 which involved removal and replacement of old pavements, installation of new runway lights, guidance signs and installation of a new lighted wind sock at the midpoint of the airport and electrical work.

The award for Commercial Service Airport and General Aviation Airport are presented on behalf of the Georgia Airport Association (GAA) by the GAA Board of Directors for a project that significantly improves airport capacity, improves safety and shows innovation or of such magnitude that its principles can be applied to numerous airports in the state, required/demonstrated extraordinary resourcefulness or any combination of the above.

Columbus Airport Opens New Attendant Free Parking Lot with RibbonCutting Ceremony on June 19, 2016

COLUMBUS, GA June 2017– The Columbus Airport Commission as part of its Vision 2020- Forward with Focus Campaign will officially open the new Attendant Free Parking Lot with a ribbon cutting ceremony Monday, June 19th at 10:30 a.m.

Installation of the Attendant Free Parking Lot system at the Airport began June 1st with the installation of new ticketing and gate arm systems for Long and Short Term parking as well as new gate arms for the exit lanes and a new pay on foot station inside the terminal where customers can now pay for their parking prior to leaving the building.

The project took two weeks to complete during which visitors at the Columbus Airport were able to park at no charge. This project marks the second completion of a Vision 2020 Forward with Focus Campaign initiative.

Vision 2020 Forward with Focus Campaign is a three year project and a product of the Commission’s five year Strategic Plan adopted in 2015 that focuses on efforts to improve products and services provided by the Commission by modernizing and improving facilities and services to be completed before the end of the year 2020.
